CSU Rams Hope For Tournament Run

Colorado State will play Fresno State Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament.

David Roddy is not walking through that door and for that, it’s been a more difficult season for the Rams. But winners of three of their last five, they feel more confident heading into the Mountain West Tournament.

“Do I think we’re playing our best? No,” said Rams Head Coach Niko Medved. “But I think we’re playing better than we’ve played all year. Do I think we have a few more gears in us?Aabsolutely and our challenge is can we find those extra couple of gears here as we go into Vegas but I do think we’ve been playing as well as we’ve played all year.”

Star point guard Isaiah Stevens is the face of CSU hoops, but senior John Tonje is right there with him. The 1000 point scorer hasn’t made a decision on if he’ll return next year, so what if this is his last tourney?

“Definitely not take anything for granted,” said Tonje. “My decision is kinda something I wanted to make after the year and reflect on it but yeah for sure. Gonna approach everyday like it’s my last and see where we go with it.”

Coach Medved knows just how much he’s gotten better, “I mean from the day he set foot on camps until now he’s kind of done it the fold fashion way of just growing, improving, willingness to accept and try to thrive in any role we’ve asked of him.”

From just wishing to be the last guy on a Division I bench, to becoming the team’s 2nd leading scorer, Tonje will never forget his time at CSU.

“For my career, it’s been good for me. Just to continue to get better, face a lot of adversity which is what I feed off of. Very, very happy and appreciative of what I’ve had here.”
