DENVER — Making the trade for Russell Wilson was absolutely the right move for the Denver Broncos last season.
Giving him the contract is a different story, but that could have been part of getting him here.
But I want to actually give the man some credit. In pro sports today, we’ve seen when high-paid star athletes are unhappy how messy it can get — Aaron Rodgers with the Packers comes to mind.
But Wilson handled himself with class, about as well as you could in that tough of a situation. I mean, the guy just stood there while head coach Sean Payton berated him on national television. It could have gotten ugly.
The week he was benched, he took our questions in the locker room — which he didn’t have to do. And he was engaged on the sideline with Jarrett Stidham, a dude that was taking his job.
He could have elected to not talk, chose to go home and not suit up. But he showed his true colors.
Sure, the “Broncos Country, Let’s Ride!” era was cringey, but Wilson is a really good guy and it’s a shame it didn’t work out.
Let the quarterback carousel begin again.
