DENVER — Forget the fact that she's a freshman, because there was no sign of inexperience anywhere on the floor around 15-year-old Kinley Asp, when she led her Colorado Springs Christian team to a 3A girls basketball state championship Saturday night.
"I love pressure," she said. "I love being in it and I think I thrive under it."
Thriving is an understatement. Asp put up 29 points, more than half of her team's total, in the Lion's 57-41 win over Vanguard.
"This is just the start," she said. "I'm proud of everyone on this court. They're the most hardworking team and everyone is always lifting each other up."
The 2023 title is CSCS's first girls basketball championships since 2002.
