9News has confirmed through sources that the Colorado Rapids have traded leading scorer Dominique Badji to FC Dallas in exchange for midfielder Kellyn Acosta.
Badji, 25, was selected by Colorado as the 67th overall pick of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. Badji has scored seven goals in 16 games for the Rapids this season. He did not play in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Salt Lake City because he is in Senegal to obtain his green card.
Acosta, 22, is a rising star for the U.S. Men’s National team and has been with Dallas since signing a Homegrown contract on July 12, 2012. In the 13 games he’s played for FCD this season, he’s registered only one goal and two assists. He was sidelined earlier this year for several months after undergoing sports hernia surgery.
FCD (11-6-3) currently holds the top-spot in the Western Conference with 39 points while Colorado (4-5-11) sits second-to-last with 17 points.
