DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche added depth to their roster as the National Hockey League (NHL) trade deadline approaches.
On Wednesday, the Avalanche acquired Lars Eller from the Washington Capitals for a second-round draft pick in 2025.

Eller, 33, has played 930 games in the NHL and was part of Washington's 2018 Stanley Cup team. During the 2022-2023 season, Eller has played 60 games, recording 16 points (7 goals and 9 assists) with Washington.
Eller was a first-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 2007 NHL Draft. He played 7 games with the Blues during the 2009-2010 season before going to Montreal.
In 2016, Eller joined the Washington Capitals and recorded 25 points (12 goals and 13 assists) in 81 games that season.
Eller set his career high in points (39) during the shortened 2019-2020 season and has produced 30 points or more during four of his last five seasons.
The NHL trade deadline is Friday, March 3 at 3 p.m. ET.
