DENVER — It's a good time to be a Denver sports fan.
In less than a 24-hour span, both the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets locked in playoff spots in their respective leagues at Ball Arena this weekend.
The Avalanche led the way with a win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday evening that punched their ticket to the NHL postseason. The Avs are aiming to win their second Stanley Cup in three years.
The Denver Nuggets were quick to follow by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday afternoon thanks to Nikola Jokic's 23rd triple-double of the season. Denver is setting out to go back-to-back as reigning NBA champions.
The Avalanche have eight games remaining in the regular season, while the Nuggets have seven.
Both the NHL and NBA playoffs are scheduled to begin in mid to late April.
