--February 1998: Prosecutor Mary Keenan and other members of the Boulder County district attorney's office meet with university lawyers, the chancellor and others about the 1997 incident and recruiting practices. Keenan later says she put athletic officials "on notice" about concerns dealing with sex and alcohol. Athletic director Richard Tharp says he has a different memory of the meeting.
--Jan. 22, 1999: Gary Barnett named head football coach.
--Dec. 7, 2001: Colorado football players and recruits attend off-campus party; at least one woman later says she was raped while drunk.
--April 2002: Prosecutors decide against rape charges.
--May 3: Prosecutors file felony charges against four football players for allegedly providing alcohol to minors at the party. The next day, school confirms it has revoked scholarships of four players.
--Dec. 9: Lisa Simpson files federal lawsuit claiming she was raped by football players and recruits during the party. The suit accuses the school of fostering an environment hostile to women. Simpson later agrees to have her name used in news reports.
--Oct. 27, 2003: Sworn statements from Keenan, now district attorney, are released suggesting prosecutors decided against sexual assault charges because men had "third-party consent" to have sex with at least one woman at the party.
--Dec. 10: A second woman sues Colorado, alleging she was raped by football athletes during the party.
--Jan. 14, 2004: Former Colorado soccer player Monique Gillaspie files suit, alleging she was raped by two football players after attending the party. She agrees to have her name used in news reports.
--Jan. 28: A deposition by Keenan is released in which she accuses Colorado's athletic department of using sex and alcohol as recruiting tools.
Jan. 29: Barnett, athletic director Dick Tharp and others deny Keenan's allegations. Gov. Bill Owens demands public accounting.
Feb. 2: Colorado President Elizabeth Hoffman announces an independent commission will look into Keenan's allegations.
Feb 6: Colorado regents appoint Peggy Lamm and Joyce Lawrence as co-chairs of commission. Keenan announces investigators will re-examine allegations about rape at the party. Broomfield police say athletic department may be tied to an incident involving an escort service.
Feb. 10: Denver adult entertainment company says Colorado football players hired strippers for recruiting parties.
Feb. 13: Colorado says escort service was called from a cell phone once assigned to former football recruiting assistant Nathan Maxcey. Maxcey says there was no connection to players or recruits.
Feb. 16: Colorado panel members chosen, but one resigns over conflict-of-interest concerns.
Feb. 17: Former Colorado kicker Katie Hnida tells Sports Illustrated she was raped by a teammate in 2000. Colorado announces it will hire an administrator to oversee athletics.
Feb. 18: Barnett placed on paid leave over comments he made about Hnida's athletic ability. Police release report in which a woman says she was sexually assaulted by a football player in September 2001 and that Barnett told her he would back his player if charges were pursued. No charges were filed.
Feb. 19: Police say they are investigating whether a woman was raped by a Colorado football player in 2002 -- the seventh allegation of its kind to surface since 1997.
Feb. 20: Assistant coach Brian Cabral named interim head football coach. A lawyer for a football player says her client was a victim of racial profiling when police investigated him as a suspect in the alleged 2002 rape.
Feb. 25: John DiBiaggio, former president of the universities of Connecticut, Michigan State and Tufts, is appointed as liaison between university administration and the athletics department.
Feb. 27: Owens appoints Attorney General Ken Salazar as special prosecutor to investigate recruiting scandal. Owens says he will recommend a prosecutor and victims' advocate to join regent-appointed investigative panel.
