LEADVILLE – Colorado native, Todd Wells, and Sally Bigham, of the United Kingdom, beat out nearly 2,000 cyclists to claim victory in one of world's toughest mountain bike races, the 21st Annual Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike.
Participants in the race rode more than 100 miles, through elevations ranging from 10,152 to 12,424 feet.
Wells won the men's division, finishing in just over six hours and 15 minutes. He beat second place finisher, Christoph Sauser, of Switzerland, by just 18 seconds. The Czech Republic's Kristian Kynek came in third.
Bigham secured a back-to-back win, in the women's division, completing the course seconds under seven hours and 24 minutes. Coloradan Jennifer Smith, from Gunnison, came in second with a time of 8:06:26. Nina Baum from Albuquerque came in third in 8:14:07.
The famous Leadville Race Series ends on August 16 with the Leadville Trail 100 Run, which draws some of the best ultrarunners in the world.
