KUSA — The Broncos made an in-house roster move Sunday, placing Su’a Cravens on injured reserve with a left knee injury and signing back Isaiah McKenzie, a league source told 9NEWS.
Cravens missed most of training camp and the first three preseason games because of the knee. He returned to practice last week and played in the Broncos’ fourth preseason game Thursday at Arizona.
When the knee flared back up over the weekend, it was decided Cravens should undergo surgery. He had surgery on the same knee a year ago to repair a meniscus tear while he was with Washington.
A second-round draft pick by Washington in 2016, Cravens was acquired by the Broncos in late-March in a swap of draft picks that amounted to Denver surrendering the equivalent of a late-fourth/early fifth round draft pick. It is possible for Cravens to return later this season should his knee heal properly, although he's definitely out the first eight weeks.
The Broncos re-signed McKenzie, the speedy punt returner and receiver with ball-security issues. He was among the team’s final cuts Saturday.
