DENVER, Colorado — Denver guard Jaxon Brenchley is finally getting his opportunity, “I’ve worked hard my whole life to be in this spot and I’ve always known I’ve had it in me,” Brenchley smiled.
The Utah transfer played just five minutes a game last year for the Runnin' Utes. But now he’s starting for Pioneers, “My job here is to help this team and the program continue to climb to the top and hopefully reach the NCAA tournament.”
Whenever Brenchley puts in a bucket or blocks a shot his biggest fan lets out a “woo!”
Jaxon’s Wife, Jace, can be found watching her husband in the crowd and you could say she is not a fair weather fan, “She understands basketball. She says ‘you gotta shoot it more! You gotta shoot more threes!”
And she does have another problem with her husband’s game, “He has no sense of rhythm at all,” Jace laughed.
Despite Jaxon’s one two step on the Pios court, his moves aren’t nearly as good as his wife’s are on the Nuggets court. Jace is a dancer for the NBA Champs, “It’s really fun to look at him, up in the crowd, just to know he’s there supporting me,” Jace recalled. “He gets to watch basketball and watch his wife dance. So I think it’s fun for both of us.”
“It’s definitely a fun thing to say ‘oh she dances for the Nuggets,” Brenchley said. “A lot of times people are surprised, they love to see that I put a picture up of her dancing at the Nuggets and they’re like wow you guys are so you know, blah, blah, blah, so it is kind of fun to talk about it.”
Jace is around NBA stars all the time. She has a picture with four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal. Then there’s walking by the two-time MVP, Nikola Jokic, “It’s funny. It’s fun. Its hard because its like, I know he’s working. And I know I’m working so I’m like, just act cool, act cool.”
Jaxon recalls the moment he knew they would end up together, “I actually told my friends that I wanted to marry her, the first, second or third time I saw her. I guess I was right!”
What’s even cooler than that is how Jaxon and Jace can celebrate each other’s successes, “We’re so blessed and lucky, because we both wanted to push ourselves to pursue what we liked to do,” said Jaxon. “I like to play basketball, she likes to dance, we’re both decently good at it, so we wanted to keep doing and pushing each other.”
“I just feel like we’re so lucky,” Jace glowed.
