Air Force Academy sports fans may not need those pom poms today, after all. On Saturday, it was announced that all intercollegiate home and away games were canceled indefinitely due to the government shutdown.
The Air Force Academy athletic department released a statement that read, "Due to the government shutdown, all Air Force Academy home and away intercollegiate athletic events have been canceled until further notice."
The statement went on to read that if a solution to the shutdown could be reached, the Academy would work to reschedule as many events as possible.
The Falcons men's basketball team was scheduled to play Fresno State at home at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. 9NEWS reached out to the Bulldogs sports information department and confirmed the team is in Colorado and awaiting more information.
The Air Force Academy ice hockey team was also slated to host Sacred Heart University Saturday evening at 5:05 p.m. The two teams faced off Friday, with Sacred Heart edging the Falcons 2-1.
In addition to the hockey and men's basketball teams, the Air Force rifle, men and women's swimming, women's basketball and men's gymnastic teams were all scheduled to compete on Saturday.
