If you're not fortunate to have constant access to a garage, there's a good chance you'll find a pesky sheet of ice covering your windshield at least once this winter.
There is a solution to help melt it. Mix one part rubbing alcohol with two parts lukewarm water and one teaspoon of dish soap. To help prevent ice from forming in the first place, spray your windshield with a mix of 2/3 vinegar, 1/3 water before the winter weather hits.
There are some unique winter weather hacks out there, too. To help keep the windshield wipers from freezing to the windshield, you could put a pair of old socks on each blade and lift the wipers away from the car.
You could also try the plastic wrappers that cover newspapers.
If you get stranded on the side of the road, you're going to want some things to keep you safe and warm. Put together an emergency kit and keep it in your car.
The kit should include jumper cables, reflective triangles or a reflective vest, a first aid kit, snacks like nuts or granola bars, a flashlight, batteries, candles, matches, a blanket and warm clothes. You could also pack kitty litter for your tires in case you get stuck in the snow.
State patrol recommends staying buckled in your car until help arrives. Consider keeping the emergency road kit in the backseat while you're in the car and in the trunk when you're not.
