PLANTSVILLE, Conn. (NBC) - It's a winter tradition at Mount Southington in Connecticut: The cardboard box race. The race is one of many events at the ski area's winter carnival in 2015. Kids and adults alike took to the slopes in cardboard sleds to race down the packed powder. Some even donned costumes.
Prizes were given out for best construction, fastest time and overall presentation.
"People get very, very creative and come up with themes to tie in a costume to that," even coordinator Tanya Richert said. "And we've seen some people who just literally take a cardboard box and put duct tape on it and it's just as fun. Those are usually the pretty fast ones."
The grand prize winner took hope a $100 prize and a trophy.
