KUSA — KUSA – Video from Sky9 shows just how close the fire line of the Lake Christine Fire came to destroying more homes.
The fire started burning the night of July 4 right on the edge of Basalt. Three homes have been destroyed in the now-5,263-acre blaze, according to firefighters.
The fire grew significantly on the Fourth of July, fueled by wind and little humidity. Several hundred residents were evacuated – and fire crews worked throughout the night to save their homes.
No evacuation orders have been lifted at this point for Eagle County residents.
Firefighters believe the blaze was started by people shooting tracer rounds – despite a fire ban in the county that bans that type of ammunition.
The suspects have been since issued a court summons in lieu of arrests, according to Carbondale Fire.
