Summit County — Snow has started falling all over Colorado, and that means it's time to make sure you have good tires on your car.
Jesse Ankerholz with Ankerholz Inc. snow removal has a fleet of front-end loaders equipped with massive snow smashing tires that have no problem with winter weather.
“Got to have the right stuff to put on the ground,” Ankerholz said. “It’s the only thing between you and road.”
And with recent October snow in the mountains, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Jay Best is on the lookout to make sure people have good tires on their cars.
“This is certainly time for snow tires on your car,” Best said.

The law in Colorado requires that people have good tires for winter driving. That means tires should have at least an eighth of an inch of tread.
Best said you can test this by turning a quarter upside down and sticking it into your tire.
“If you see any part of his head in that tread depth then you can tell your tread is insufficient,” Best said.
It’s good advice, because already bald tires in the snow have been causing problems along Interstate.
“We’re seeing a lot of people spin out,” Best said.
