Overcoming challenges can be especially tough for children with learning disorders, but some students aren't letting disabilities like dyslexia or blindness get in the way of higher education.
National nonprofit "Leaning Ally" honored several students on Saturday. All three students who received the National Achievement Award are blind.
History Colorado Center hosted the event, which was a learning opportunity for the community, too. Performances and demonstrations were open to anyone with dyslexia or a visual impairment.
The goal of the event was to let people with learning disabilities know they're not alone, according to student ambassador Aleisa Myles.
"Before, when I found out that I had dyslexia, I literally thought there was no hope. Then having Learing Ally by my side ,everything changed around for me," Myles said.
This was the Learning Ally's 56th annual award ceremony.
