DENVER - The heavy snow forced many schools to cancel class Tuesday and people decided to spend the day outside.
The steep terrain at Ruby Hill Park in Denver attracted both kids and kids at heart.
"We like bringing them out here every year to let them go sledding," David Montoya said . "It's a nice big fun hill."
"I got a call this morning and my whole mood changed. Snow day!" Listy Lehman said with a laugh.
Lehman decided to take her two young children sledding in honor of her 4-year-old son Chance's first snow day.
While most people brought out plastic sleds and inner tubes, one man used his new kayak to rush down the snow-covered hill.
"I thought, 'Why not?' It looked pretty fun," Tim Phillips said.
Some of the families say this is the best way to kick off the season.
"You can build a snowman and you can play in the snow," Jaelen Cook said.
"You get to have fun, you get to relax, it's a little bit of bonding, it's good stuff," said Jaelen's father Robert Cook.
