DENVER — Cherry Hills Village is home to many mansions, but one designed to replicate an eighteenth-century Italian villa hit the market last month for $8.25 million.
Designed by architect Carlos Alvarez and completed in 2009, the home at 8 Churchill Drive in Denver's suburbs was originally a passion-project of Bayard K. "Barry" Sweeney III, an auto industry executive and member of the family that ran Denver-based BK Sweeney Manufacturing.
Owners Gene Edwards, a retired Valero Energy Corp. executive from Texas, and wife Marcie purchased the home for $5.25 million in 2014, according to public records. They are now looking to sell the eight-bedroom, 13-bathroom home in order to downsize and spend more time with their family, according to listing agent Janet Kritzer of LIV Sotheby's International Realty.
"At the time that they bought it, they thought it was a great find," Kritzer told Denver Business Journal.
The nearly 21,000-square-foot mansion is located on 2.5 acres of land overlooking the 11th hole of the Cherry Hills Country Club and features outstanding craftsmanship to achieve European aesthetics and quality.
