Lauren Boebert wins Colorado District 4 primary to replace Ken Buck, per AP

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert has won the GOP primary race in Colorado's 4th Congressional District, according to the Associated Press.

COLORADO, USA — Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has won the six-way race to replace retired U.S. Rep. Ken Buck in what may be the most closely watched congressional primary in Colorado.

Boebert switched from her former congressional district, Colorado's 3rd, after winning the 2022 election by only 546 votes.

According to a recent poll by Kaplan Strategies out of Florida, Boebert has a 35-point lead over the five other candidates with about 40% of voters undecided as of early June. She won top line on the ballot at the state GOP's assembly.

The results for the GOP primary are below:

Boebert is the only candidate in the GOP primary endorsed by former President Donald Trump. She is also the only candidate in the primary endorsed by the Colorado Republican Party.

Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg is among the five Republicans taking on Boebert in the primary. Sonnenberg is a former state representative and longtime figure in Colorado Republican politics.

Current state Rep. Richard Holtorf (R-Akron) is one of two other Republican state representatives in the race. The other is former state House Minority Leader Mike Lynch (R-Wellington), who stepped down from leadership early this year after a DUI arrest from 2002 was made public.

Mortgage broker Peter Yu is also in the race. Yu unsuccessfully ran for Colorado's 2nd Congressional district in 2017 and a U.S. Senate seat in 2021.

Former conservative talk radio host Deborah Flora fills out the field. Flora founded the group Parents United America and sits on the board of the conservative group Colorado Parent Advocacy Network (CPAN). Both organizations advocate for "parental rights" in children's education.

All six Republican candidates participated in a 9NEWS debate before ballots dropped, which garnered national attention.

Three candidates are competing in the district's Democratic primary.

The results are below for the Democratic primary (polls close at 7 p.m.):

Marine Corps veteran Ike McCorkle is a Purple Heart recipient with a family history of military service. McCorkle is a self-described "post-partisan, populist FDR-type Democrat."

John Padora Jr., another Democratic primary competitor, is an engineer and addiction recovery advocate. Padora is a recovering drug addict who has been open about his experiences with recovery and prison time for drug possession.

Trisha Calvarese is the third Democratic candidate. She won the top line on the ballot at the district assembly and is the Democratic nominee for the 4th District's special vacancy election to fill out the remainder of Buck's term this year. Calvarese has worked for the U.S. Civil Service and The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

The voter makeup for the 4th Congressional District is 47% unaffiliated, 35% Republican and 17% Democrat. The Republican candidate is most likely to win this race.
