Bronze cowboy stands tall at Sertoma Square

DENVER - There's a new face at Sertoma Square. Adjacent to the Brown Palace, a bronze cowboy statue now stands, honoring Denver's western heritage and the National Western Stock Show's Citizen of the West recipients.

Tom Petrie, chairman of the National Western Stock Show Sertoma Square committee, says the cowboy statue best represents the event's true character.

"We felt this one epitomized the rodeo and ... that strong spirit which is so much associated [with the stock show]," Petrie said.

The statue was dedicated to the stock show seven years ago, on its 100-year anniversary but hadn't been completed until now. The statue also features the names of each Citizen of the West honoree since 1978.
