On Friday afternoon the U.S. Army Denver Recruiting Battalion enlisted the state's first female into a combat role at an enlistment ceremony.
Kayleigh Schlag of Denver enlisted as an 11X Infantryman as part of the Department of Defense's initiative to lift all gender-based restrictions on military service.
She is the 1st woman from Colorado that could be sent to the front lines after completion of basic training and Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Kayleigh is a native of Colorado and attended Heritage High School in Littleton.
