U.S. men's basketball team finalizes 12-man roster for Rio Olympics

The U.S. men’s basketball Olympic team has its 12 players for the Rio Olympics, seven people with knowledge of the roster told USA TODAY Sports.

They requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly until the team is announced officially on Monday.

Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving and Golden State’s Harrison Barnes were the final two players to accept invitations.

They join these players on the team:

  • Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant
  • Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins
  • Golden State’s Draymond Green and Klay Thompson
  • Indiana’s Paul George
  • Toronto’s Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan
  • New York’s Carmelo Anthony
  • Chicago’s Jimmy Butler
  • Los Angeles Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan.

While Cleveland’s LeBron James, Golden State’s Steph Curry, Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook, Houston’s James Harden and San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard were among the NBA’s top players deciding not to play in Rio, the U.S. will again be favorites to win a third consecutive Olympic gold medal.

The U.S. will start training for the Olympics in Las Vegas and play exhibition games in Las Vegas, Oakland, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston before leaving for Rio.
