America’s Greatest Makers
TBS, 9 ET/PT

As one reality contest exits, another premieres. This latest effort from Survivor’s Mark Burnett challenges 24 teams to come up with the next great bit of game-changing technology.

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson
FX, 10 ET/PT

There were many reasons to be wary of this concluding series before it began, from fears that it would be excessive or exploitative to concerns that it would simply trod over well-worn ground. That those fears proved to be unfounded is a welcome surprise — but what’s even more welcome, and equally surprising, is the level of excellence this drama reached across the board. As the title indicates, the focus here was less on the suspect or the victims than on the lawyers, a choice that humanized Marcia Clark and Johnnie Cochran and gave us performances from Sarah Paulson and Courtney B. Vance that should be studied in every acting school. And those are just two members of a cast that’s sure to pose a who-do-we-leave-out challenge to Emmy voters.
