Indiana voters favor Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, but not by large margins, according to the first polling ahead of the state's May 3 primary.
Trump led the Republican field with 37%, according to the poll conducted April 18 to 21 by Public Opinion Strategies on behalf of WTHR and HoweyPolitics. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz followed with 31%. Ohio Gov. John Kasich had 22%.
On the Democratic side, Clinton led Sen. Bernie Sanders 48% to 45% — within the margin of error.
The poll, conducted by pollster Gene Ulm, included responses from 500 Hoosiers and Republican and Democratic over samples. It had a margin of error of 4.3 percentange points on the Republican side and 4.47 points on the Democratic side.
