Fans mourn death of MMA legend Kimbo Slice

Mixed martial arts fighter and YouTube star Kimbo Slice died Monday in Florida. 

Slice, who known as the "King of the Web Brawlers," was 42 years old. On Twitter, Slice’s gym tweeted a photo of him and said the community was mourning his death. 

“The ATT Family and South Florida community lost a legend today. RIP Kimbo,” the American Top Team gym said in a tweet. 

Scott Coker, the president of Bellator, the company that represented Slice, said in a statement he was "shocked" by the 42-year-old's death.    

"We are (...)  saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family," Coker said. "Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man." 

A representative for the Coral Springs Police Department told MMAjunkie Slice was admitted to Northwest Medical Center in Margate, Fla., on Monday. According to police, officers were sent to Slice's home following his hospitalization, but they did not find any issues, MMAjunkie reported. 

The cause of death is not immediately clear.

On social media, many mourned Slice's untimely death and offered sympathy to his family. 

Kimbo's fellow MMA fighters and other celebrities also expressed shock at his passing. 

 

 

Many noted that Slice's death was just days after Muhammad Ali passed away.
