Drone operator cited for D.C. flight. Again.

WASHINGTON – A drone operator was cited for a second time for flying a remote-controlled aircraft over Anacostia Park in Washington, D.C., police said Monday.

WASHINGTON – A drone operator was cited for a second time for flying a remote-controlled aircraft over Anacostia Park in Washington, D.C., police said Monday.

Howard Solomon III, 50, of Washington, was cited Sunday about 8:30 p.m. for operating a Yuneec Typhoon Q500+ drone, after U.S. Park Police spotted the drone from their helicopter, Eagle 1. In addition to the $85 citation, the drone and controller equipment were seized, police said.

Solomon had been cited in October after crashing on the Ellipse near the White House. He told The Associated Press after that incident that he was trying to take pictures of the Washington Monument when the wind blew the aircraft toward the White House.

Drone flights are prohibited in D.C. and in national parks. The incident was the second drone citation this year in a Washington-area park, and the 29th since 2013, police said.
