9NEWS Reporter Jinah Kim looks at the suspect's criminal history. 5 p.m. Dec. 29, 2003.
According to a background check, Blake Fieber has been arrested in Texas for felony theft, possession of marijuana, failure to identify himself as a fugitive, driving with a suspended license, and evading arrest. The arrests happened from 1999 to 2001 and involved several months in jail and probation.
Fieber has no prior criminal record in Colorado, but now faces felony charges in connection with Sunday's fatal apartment fire. Investigators believe he started a fire in the Glendale complex at 4601 E. Kentucky Ave.
Fieber faces first-degree murder, first-degree arson and felony criminal mischief charges. He appeared in court Monday morning, but formal charges will not be filed until the investigation is complete, which should be Jan. 5, authorities said. And more charges may be filed.
He remained in jail and was denied bond, because the judge said Fieber is relatively new to Colorado and has no family here, except a girlfriend and their newborn child.
The judge also sealed all documents, barring the media from finding out why he's a suspect.
9NEWS found out that Fieber owes $3,000 in damage he caused at his former apartment. Sources say he allegedly had a violent fight at Prescott Apartments this past summer, so he was asked to leave. He's now in collections for the money he owes.
In another development, a 9NEWS viewer called police in Mesquite, Texas about Fieber and a possible connection to a kidnapping.
Monday morning, the viewer saw a teenager who appeared on the Montel Williams show. The 15-year-old was briefly kidnapped last year in the same town where Fieber lived.
The viewer told police the suspect's sketch in that case resembled Fieber. Police agree and are now looking into it.
