Mike Landess, a television-news fixture for half a century who retired less than two years ago, will once again be an anchor in Denver.

KWGN-Channel 2 said Wednesday that Landess will be co-anchor of a new 4 p.m. newscast, starting July 18, as well as a 7 p.m. news show.

He will be joined on both newscasts by co-anchor Deborah Takahara and meteorologist Matt Makens, a new arrival at the Tribune Media Co.-owned Denver station, branded as Colorado's Own Channel 2.

"My motto is 'Be where you're supposed to be',” Landess said. “And the opportunity to be with friends and colleagues at KWGN called my name."

“Mike is an iconic anchor who understands the issues and the audience in the Denver metro area. I’m confident he and Deb will make a fantastic team since she too has deep roots in our community," said Joan Barrett, KWGN's vice president and general manager.
