LONGMONT - A 31-year-old woman drowned trying to save a dog in a ditch outside Longmont Tuesday was identified.
The woman was Megan Davis of Longmont.
The Boulder County Sheriff's Office was called around 1:30 p.m. to Highland Ditch in the 12900 block of North 87th Street on a report of a drowning.
Deputies arrived approximately four minutes later and found friends of Davis' performing CPR, after they had pulled her from the swift-moving water. She was transported to Longmont United Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Witnesses say Davis, who was visiting friends in the area, went into the fast-moving water in an attempt to save a dog who had fallen in. The dog was rescued and is doing fine.
Water in irrigation ditches and creeks is running very high and fast at this time of year.
