MORGAN COUNTY, Colo. — A woman died while floating down the S. Platte River Friday.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office said that at around noon three women entered the river near Fort Morgan.

The women floated down the river for some time before they came to a low head dam, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office. The dam diverts water from the river.

The release says the women talked, and two of the women decided to get out of the river and go around the dam. The third woman decided to go over the dam.

The two that had gotten out saw their friend go under the water and not come up for some time, according to the Sheriff's Office.

When the woman in the water finally did resurface, police said she was not responsive.

The two women pulled their friend to shore and called 911.

Brush Police arrived first and helped pull the unresponsive woman from the water. Sheriff's deputies got there shortly after and the officers began performing CPR before medics arrived.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Colorado Plains Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The woman's name will be released at a later time.
