DENVER – Police are investigating if the woman accused of stabbing the Denver fire chief Tuesday afternoon had any prior connection with the 24-year veteran of the department.
Marlene Zacevich-Rodriguez, 42, is being held on investigation of aggravated assault.
She allegedly attacked Denver Fire Chief Eric Tade while he was parked on westbound Colfax Avenue near Speer Boulevard just after 1:30 p.m.
Police say Zacevich-Rodriguez jumped into his car and stabbed him.
Tade was able to get out of the car and walk to a nearby fire station, where he received some treatment before he was taken to Denver Health. He sustained minor injuries to his right leg and one of his hands, but was released from the hospital Tuesday night, according to Denver Fire.
Tade is recovering at home.
Witnesses were able to help lead police to Zacevich-Rodriguez, who had been arrested before for driving under the influence and related traffic charges in 2009. Her criminal history dates back to 1998, according to court records.
Tade is a second-generation firefighter who has spent 24 years with the Denver Fire Department.
The stabbing remains under investigation.
