Firefighters are continuing to monitor a prescribed burn in the Roosevelt National Forest north of Red Feather Lakes.
After crews successfully burned 300 acres on Wednesday and 500 acres on Thursday, burning will continue on Friday as well. Fire managers say smoke will be highly visible east of the Crystal Lakes Subdivision and engines will be at the site over the weekend.
The goal of the fire prescribed burn is to improve forest health and reduce the risk of high-severity wildfires.
The prescribed burn is being conducted by fire staff from the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland. Firefighters from the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests, The Nature Conservancy, Crystal Lakes Fire Department and the Rocky Mountain National Park Alpine Hotshots are assisting.
