Firefighters in Summit County are dealing with dry conditions and gusty winds as they battle the Buffalo Mountain Fire.

Winds were gusting about 15-35 mph in Summit County Tuesday afternoon after the fire started, but are expected to settle to 5-10 mph after about 6 p.m.

Winds will remain light through the overnight, before picking up again Wednesday midday. Thursday will also be breezy, with a chance for isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

While the thunderstorms could provide relief in the way of rain, they also carry the additional threat of gusty downdrafts and lightning.

In the southwest corner of Colorado, where crews are dealing with multiple fires in the San Juan forest, winds are lighter, but the heat continues with temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s.
