Rest of evacuation orders lifted for 416 Fire

The 416 Fire, which has been burning for more than a month, has now burned more than 54,000 acres but all remaining evacuation orders were lifted Monday.

DURANGO - The 416 Fire that's been burning in southwest Colorado for more than a month grew to more than 54,000 acres as of Thursday morning. It grew by 869 on Wednesday and has now burned a total of 54,128 acres and was 45 percent contained.

Decreased fire behavior is expected again Thursday and there is good potential for rain on Friday.

All of the remaining evacuation orders were lifted Monday afternoon, according to the La Plata County Sheriff's Office. This impacted 447 residents.

A closure on La Plata County Road 124 from the junction of County Road 124A was implemented Monday, restricting access to Kennebec Pass Trailhead located in the fire area closure area. Accessing trails and roads that connect to the closure order area are being patrolled by law enforcement agencies.

The cause of the fire, which started June 1, is under investigation. So far it has cost $28.9 million to fight the fire according to the incident command.
