Multiple Colorado counties under fire restrictions

Twenty-three Colorado counties have fire restrictions due to current weather conditions.

COLORADO, USA — Stage 1 and 2 fire restrictions have been set in various counties throughout the state that will be in effect over the weekend. 

The fire restrictions are set due to less favorable weather conditions and moisture found throughout the restricted counties, according to the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Twenty-three counties are currently under fire restrictions and all vary on when the restriction will remain active.

For those traveling this weekend, here is a list of areas you should be on the lookout for as the fire restrictions remain active and encompass major highways/freeways:  

Chaffee

Chaffee County entered a stage 2 fire restriction on Wednesday. County residents are prohibited from burning any "open fire". Authorities also prohibit burning trash, leaf piles, setting off fireworks, having a campfire, and smoking. These restrictions also apply throughout unincorporated areas of Chaffee County, including public and private lands.

The following restrictions apply to all lands in unincorporated Clear Creek County: Building, maintaining, attending or using any open fire; Sale, possessing, discharging or using any type of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices to include sparklers, smoking, all other outdoor spark or flame-producing activities; and shooting.

Clear Creek

On August 28, a temporary stage 1 fire restriction was set into place in Clear Creek. 

Douglas 

Stage 1 fire restrictions were set for Douglas County on Thursday that has set a ban on target shooting on Forest Service Lands. No open burning of any kind or use of fireworks is allowed while the restriction is active.

El Paso 

El Paso Sheriff Bill Elder ordered a stage 1 fire restriction on Thursday for all of the incorporated areas of the county. This is due to the continued dry conditions and the expected forecast for continued dry and warmer than normal weather, according to the Nationa Weather Service.

Restrictions include open burning, sale or use of fireworks, and outdoor smoking.

Jefferson

On Friday, Jefferson County went under a stage 1 fire restriction for all lands in Jefferson County. Due to current dry conditions and continuous risk for high fire danger within Jefferson County, any fire or campfires are prohibited.

Lake

 Set in effect Thursday, Lake County is in a stage 2 fire ban and currently involves all public and private property. Prohibitions set in Lake County include building, maintaining, attending or using a fire campfire or stove fire.

Park

A stage 1 fire restriction is currently under effect in Park County that caused target shooting closures.

The United States Forest Service also set restrictions for the following: Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire. Smoking, operating a chainsaw without a USDA or SAE-approved spark arrester properly installed, welding or operating acetylene or other torches with an open flame, or using an explosive.

Summit

As of August 23, the Board of County Commissioners enacted Stage 1 fire restrictions in Summit County.
