The Hayden Pass Fire -- burning 3 miles north of Coaldale -- has grown to 12,012 acres, forcing more evacuations.

Kyle Sullivan with the Bureau of Land Management says the Fox Creek subdivision is now under a mandatory evacuation. That's in addition to homes on County Road 6 and County Road 40.

Despite the evacuations, he says no homes have lost or firefighters injured due to the blaze.

There have been 109 homes evacuated. People inside an additional 12 homes have refused to leave, according to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.

The fire is expected to be an "extended event" and it's unknown when evacuees will be able to return home. Short-term visits may be possible in the future, but there's no guarantee on when that will be.

Sullivan says that in addition to protecting structures and safety, crews are starting to build fire lines.

He says the air attack Monday was successful.

Relative humidity is lower Tuesday, making conditions drier. However, winds are not as high. No red flag warnings have been issued.

Sullivan says 30 crews/engines are either battling the fire or on their way. Heavy aircraft has been ordered, but some of that has been diverted to other fires.

Two helicopters battled the fire in coordinated drops Monday. The helicopters are effective because they can coordinate closely with ground crews, can perform targeted drops and can access local water sources.

The very active blaze is burning heavy beetle kill area, so many of the trees are dead and burn quickly. The fire is not contained.

The US Forest Service says a majority of the fire is in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness, just south and east of Hayden Pass, on the San Isabel National Forest.

Fremont County Road 6 is closed west of Highway 50.

U.S. Forest Service's Hayden Creek, Coaldale Campgrounds, Cutty's Hayden Creek Resort and the Fox Creek subdivision have been evacuated.

It is believed a lightning strike July 8 caused the fire.
