MORRISON, Colo. — A small brush fire in Jefferson County on Wednesday was started when a bird hit overhead power lines, according to West Metro Fire Rescue.
The department posted at 3:03 p.m. Wednesday that crews were working the fire near The Fort restaurant located at 19192 Hwy. 8 in Morrison.
About an hour later the department posted that the fire was 100% contained and crews were mopping it up.
On Thursday, the department said the bird started the fire when it caught fire after hitting the lines and landing in the grass and brush below, igniting it.
This is the second incident in recent weeks in Colorado where a bird was electrocuted and started a wildfire.
On July 18 in Byers, a bird caught fire after coming into contact with electrical equipment, fell to the ground below and ignited the nearby vegetation. That sparked a fire that burned more than 1,100 acres.
