CORTEZ - A wildfire has burned through hundreds of acres on Sleeping Ute Mountain southwest of Cortez in Montezuma County according to the Cortez Journal.
The fire was first reported Thursday afternoon and is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike the local paper reported. It's burning in rugged, heavily forested terrain.
No structures were threatened, and no evacuations were in place according to the sheriff's office.
On Friday, a Boulder County Sheriff's Office fire sent a 20-person inter-agency crew to assist with the Toe Fire in Cortez. Firefighters from Four Mile Fire, USFS, Rocky Mountain National Park and Larimer County Sheriff's Office are a part of the crew.
