WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — Police are searching for victims who encountered a man pointing what appeared to be a rifle at people and cars in the area of West 52nd Avenue and Ward Road Thursday morning.
Wheat Ridge police said a man entered a business with what appeared to be a rifle at 7:30 a.m. Police said the man did not point the weapon at anyone inside the business.
When the employees inside Blackhawk Equipment Corporation asked the man to leave he moved outside toward the street where he pointed the weapon at others, according to a spokesperson for Wheat Ridge Police.
The man was taken into custody after the incident and police said there is no danger to the public.
"If no victims come forward, we're unable to file any charges," said Alex Rose, public information officer for Wheat Ridge police. He said investigators are soliciting tips from the public.
In a tweet, police said they were not releasing the suspect's description to avoid confirmation bias from potential victims.
Police are investigating the incident as felony menacing.
Rose said if a person is waving a gun or weapon at someone and that person has a reasonable fear for their safety, they can report that to the police.
"Pointing it at people in the street would constitute as felony menacing under Colorado law," said Rose. "We believe there is at least one driver who the suspect pointed the weapon at."
Police asked that victims in this incident call 303-237-2220 to help with their investigation.
