ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — A volunteer firefighter with Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue died Thursday in a crash while off duty, the department announced.
In a post on social media, the department called Diego Jose "DJ" Darquea Juris a "dedicated volunteer firefighter" and said he would be "deeply missed."
The crash was reported near the intersection of South Parker Road and Florida Avenue around 1 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Colorado State Patrol. It involved a motorcyclist and another driver.
Darquea Juris was known for his commitment to his community and bravery as a firefighter, according to a release from Bennett-Watkins Fire. The department said at the time of the crash he was wearing full protective riding gear.
The crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.
