DENVER — The Fourth of July is still two weeks away, but some people living in west Denver say illegal firework displays have started early this year.
People who live in the West Barnum neighborhood said they believe someone is dropping fireworks out of a moving car and speeding away.
Video captured on a doorbell camera near West 5th Avenue and Xavier Street Monday night shows a lit firework exploding, shooting straight at a home.
“It was a little scary,” said Angelique Salcido, who lives next door to the home seen on the video. “Especially that close to home.”
Salcido said her family was barbecuing in the backyard when it happened.
“It’s basically artillery shells that should be going up in the sky,” Salcido said. “There’s a lot of people that play outside, so hopefully nobody gets hurt.”
The homeowner, who asked not to be identified, said when she opened her front door, smoke came pouring in.
Denver Police said no incidents have been reported to 911, but they’re asking anyone who has witnessed this activity to reach out.
