When fire rescue crews arrived on the scene, they said they found that a nearby resident had grabbed their boat and paddled out to the overturned kayak.

Fire crews met the resident on the lake and recovered a person from the water. They started CPR, but their efforts were unsuccessful and officials said the victim died.

The victim has not been identified.

Monument Police are investigating the incident.
