Children were screaming and jumping around at Eiber Elementary School in Lakewood Thursday afternoon, so West Metro Fire quickly responded with around 35 fighters to resolve the situation.
The issue? Not enough winter coats.
“We’re here in conjunction with Operation Warm,” West Metro Lt. Michael Frainier said. “We go out and find low income schools in our areas, and we provide coats for the winter time.”
Most fire stations that take part in Operation Warm across the country pick one class to give coats to. Not West Metro. They gave coats to every kid at Eiber Thursday, and Principal Stacy Bedell couldn’t be more appreciative.
“We have a really high free and reduced lunch rate here at Eiber,” she said. “We’re almost 94 percent. We just do everything we can for the kids, and it’s so nice when the community comes together, and supports the needs of the students.”
These firefighters couldn’t be happier to help these kids out.
They don’t just leave with coats.
They leave with smiles, confidence, and a solid high fives.
“We feel like we give back to the community every day doing what we do,” Frainier said, “but this is just above and beyond. We have a bunch of fire fighters here today who are excited to help out and give back to their community. Especially these kids.”
