Missing Lakewood teen found

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A Lakewood teen who went missing Thursday has been found safe.

A Missing Indigenous Person Alert issued by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday said the girl had last been seen Thursday afternoon.

On Saturday evening, CBI said the girl had been safely located and deactivated the alert.

Because the girl is a minor, 9NEWS is no longer identifying her.

If an Indigenous person goes missing in Colorado, the state sends out a specific alert. The new system went live in January 2023.

SB 22-150 expanded the investigation into cases of missing and murdered Indigenous people, and created the Missing Indigenous Person Alert through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

A request for such an alert must come from police. The law also requires a law enforcement agency that receives a report of a missing Indigenous person to tell CBI within eight hours if it involves an adult, or within two hours for a missing child.
