A student brought a handgun to Thornton HS Thursday morning.

THORNTON - A sophomore at Thornton High School brought a handgun to school on Thursday according to police.

Officials at the school received an anonymous tip about the weapon just before 9 a.m. The School Resource Officer contacted the student in class and took him into custody for possession of a handgun.

A 9mm handgun was found in the student's backpack. Thornton police say it was loaded with 3 rounds in the magazine but it did not have a round chambered in a firing position.

Right now investigators say there's no indication that the teen made any threats to students or staff. Police are still trying to determine where the boy got the gun.

The boy, 15, was arrested for investigation of carrying a concealed weapon on school grounds and juvenile in possession of a handgun. He was taken to the Adams County Juvenile Detention Facility.
