KUSA – Few understand what it’s like to be Sabrina Jones for two minutes - let alone two years.

“If I could describe my pain, I would,” Jones said.

She’s a mom who’s been searching for her daughter since July 15, 2016. Sunday marked two years since Lashaya Stine disappeared. She was 16 years old at the time.

“When she went missing, she was a George Washington High School student,” Jones said. “She was on the honor roll and she was actually set to graduate early.”

She had plans for college and a career as a nurse. Jones wanted it all for her daughter.

“It’s really hard. Some days are better than others. Some days you wake up and you know you can get through the day. You’re like, ‘we’re going to find her. I know we’re going to find her,’” she said. “And then there’s those days where you don’t even know if she’s even alive.”

Lashaya Stine was last seen about 2:30 a.m. on July 15, 2016, near E. Montview Boulevard and N. Peoria Street in northwest Aurora. She’s approximately 5-foot-6 tall, 150 pounds with long black hair, brown eyes and has a quarter-sized round scar on her chest.

Two years of searching for her daughter changed Sabrina Jones.

“You kind of learn to toughen up a little,” she said. “I have to be tough because that’s the only thing that I have control of.”

On Sunday morning, Aurora Police posted on Facebook a video message from Chief Nick Metz urging the public to help find Lashaya.

STILL SEARCHING | 1 year later, still no trace of Lashaya Stine

“The reality is folks, we know somebody out there knows something,” Metz said in the video. “And whatever it is they know, it may seem insignificant to them, but that little insignificant piece maybe just the thing we need to find Lashaya.”

The Aurora Police Department, FBI and Metro Denver Crime Stoppers are offering rewards totaling $15,000 for information about Lashaya Stine’s whereabouts.

Tipsters can reach the Aurora Police Department Crimes Against Children Tipline at 303-739-6164 and Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at -720-913-7867. Callers can remain anonymous.
