COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Crews responded to the Suncor refinery in Commerce City on Friday morning for what Suncor officials said was a vapor leak at one of its plants.
An alert on Suncor's website said people might have heard an alarm or might have seen smoke; however, they said no one needs to take immediate action.
An update about 1 p.m. said Suncor was responding to a vapor leak in its refining process equipment. Crews responded, and the leak was mitigated. The refinery's monitoring system indicated any compounds released in the leak were below detection levels, Suncor said.
The plant had been fully shut down since late December after bitter cold weather damaged some of the equipment. Work to restart Plant 2 was started on Feb. 9. A Suncor spokesperson said at that time it would take a few days for Plant 2 to be fully operational.
There are two other plants at the facility. Suncor said the entire complex would be back to full operations by the end of March.
Gas prices have steadily risen since the plant was taken offline in December. Average prices along the Front Range topped $4 a gallon this week, according to AAA.
