KUSA — A gas smell that became so strong there were complaints of headaches at a Wheat Ridge middle school ultimately led officials to cancel class Tuesday.
The smell at Everitt Middle School was first reported just after 8 a.m., according to Jeffco Public Schools spokesperson Diana Wilson.
Wheat Ridge Police Department spokesperson Sara Spaulding said the odor likely originated from the gas station next door, which was moving tanks.
Everitt Middle School was eventually cleared due to the complaints, and school was dismissed for the day at 9:12 a.m., Wilson said.
Parents are able to reunite with their children at Wheat Ridge High School.
Everitt Middle School is located at 3900 Kipling Street in Wheat Ridge.
