Hello, I'm Johnny Cash's statue: A monument to the singer is unveiled at the US Capitol

Cash's statue will be the newest added to the Capitol since one from North Carolina depicting the Rev. Billy Graham was unveiled in May.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark — On Tuesday, September 24, a bronze statue of Arkansas native and renowned musician Johnny Cash will be unveiled at the United States Capitol building in Emancipation Hall at 11:00 a.m.

The National Statuary Hall Steering Committee and the Arkansas Capitol Arts and Grounds Commission commissioned Arkansas artist Kevin Kresse to create it.

The statue, along with a new statue of civil rights leader Daisy Gatson Bates, is set to replace Arkansas’s two former statues in the U.S. Capitol.

Earlier this year in May, Bates' statue unveiling took place.

"I could not be more proud to participate in this event, honoring another Arkansan who has had such an impact on American music and culture," said Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston. "Johnny Cash is truly a legend. I'm thankful to all who had a part in making sure his legacy will live on and represent our state in the nation's Capitol."

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders was at the unveiling and expressed excitement and said it was an honor to be in the nation's Capitol representing the state of Arkansas, and an honor for one of the state's best known icons to be displayed there.

"I look out in the crowd and see plenty of friendly faces. Many of you were here last spring when we unveiled Daisy Bates’ statue. I’m glad we’re here again to tell Arkansas’ story," she added.
