People have been told to avoid the area after a bear was spotted near an elementary school in Parker Thursday afternoon.
The Parker Police Department tweeted about the bear near Legacy Point Elementary School at 12:15 p.m. Officers said Colorado Parks and Wildlife as well as the school district have been notified.
A civic alert was issued by police to alert surrounding residents.
The bear was later spotted hopping at fence on Cherry Creek Trail in the Stroh Ranch Subdivision.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife believes the bear has since headed into the gulch along Cherry Creek and since it hasn't display any threatening behavior, there's no need to respond.
Anyone who spots the bear is asked to call Colorado Parks and Wildlife at 303-841-9800.
